Hi all,
Yes, peculiar configuration![]()
But the reason i would like to configure it like that is:
1. 15" notebook is too big for me - hence 14.1
2. Still, I am a graphic artist / designer, and need a lot of pixels - hence 1400x1050 resolution
3. I dont play games at all, and need all the battery life I can get - hence Intel GMA950
What i ve seen so far, is that the general tendency is towards the ATI chips with SXGA vs Intel GMA950 with XGA, but unless ATI offers same or better battery life (on any chip) than GMA950, i wouldn't go for one.
So, do you guys think there is a chance to order such a config ?
Thanks in advance, and i welcome myself to the forumsBeen lurking for a while, especially in the Thinkpad section. Have a nice day all!

I don't think they offer it.

It's an interesting question... I was thinking the same myself.
The anandtech preview said they got consistently more than 5hrs battery life from their 2.17ghz t60 but on further inspection it seems they say they had a 14.1" SXGA with intel chipset.
When I compare all the models on the UK lenovo site, they list 5hrs + battery on the intel gfx chipset models and it falls to 4hrs or less with the ati but there's no intel 14.1 SXGA listed.
Anyway, battery life more important for me too so I'm tempted by the intel one even if its only normal 1024x768 (suspect I shouldn't hold my breath for seeing nice vista graphics on it though ;-) -
All 14" T60 with 1400x1050 comes with a ATI X1300. If you want the Intel GMA 950 you can only get the 1024x768.

Personally i think it is rather stupid that manufacturers associate resolution with the graphic chip. Even slow graphic cards have more than enough bandwidth to drive a regular 2d windows desktop at 1600x1200, there should be a stop to this confusion. I dont game AT ALL, but i do graphic design, and need all the pixels I can get, i would very much enjoy a 1920x1600 resolution on a 12.1" screen even, because I can tweak windows to show the GUI at appropriate size (read: big enough), and the rest is left for me to display large photographs. But I know what you say is true, at Lenovo's site they either offer a ATI chip with SXGA screen, or Intel GMA with XGA screen. How silly
However I found the LG T1 Express Dual, which supposedly employs the low-voltage similiar-performance L2400 Core Duo processor, and runs its 14.1" WSXGA screen (1400x900) on Intel 950. Just what I need. Now, if only it had a point stick instead of the touchpad.... -
Amn,
Take a look at the Dell D620, it can be configured with the
resolution you want (14" WXGA+ and GMA950), and it
comes with a pointing stick. -
Get a dedicated video card and used Powerplay and/or underclocking/undervolting to save battery, if it's important.
-
the GMA 950 does not offer thatmuch resolution thats why....
-
Oh, it does, and it can drive an external display at 2048x1536 juuuust fine. It has nothing to do with speed. It is a common buyer-market adaptation strategy, in which manufacturers believe that no users will need a small screen with fine resolution and that no users need a fine resolution if they dont need a gaming graphic card with it, because lets admit there is little to no appliance to all the workforce of dedicated graphics chips like ATI and NVidia besides gaming nowadays. Exceptions are coming Vista which will offload GUI candy to the GPU, and MacOS X which already uses hardware accelerated GUI with OpenGL. And GMA950 does these kind of things just fine, the "Vista running on GMA950" video shows that it can handle GUI very well. And I dont need more than that. The problem is basically this mentioned misconception of relations between screen size, graphics subsystem, and resolution.
The choice for me now is between T60 14.1" 1400x1050 with ATI xwhatever (dont care really), LG T1 Express Dual (1400x900 14.1" run by GMA950) and Dell D620 14.1" 1400x900 also run by GMA950. -
Amn,
You might add to this list the Fujitsu S7110. It seems to meet your
requirements: 1400X1050, GMA950, pointing stick and also it's very light
at 4.3 lbs. Hopefully we'll soon have reviews to read.
Personally, I want a widescreen notebook so the T60 and S7110 are out.
Also the LG T1 comes here in Canada with a 4200 RPM drive, to slow for
me. So I'm left with a choice between the D620 and the upcoming Z61T. -
yah the fujitsu have better screen even since youre a graphic artist...
I have gma 900 on my notebook but still only max 1200x800..and max external is 1600x1200...
Possible to get a T60 with 14.1 SXGA screen run by Intel GMA950?
