    My new T61p has a hitachi 7200rpm 100Gb HDD.
Now I love it~! 7200RPM!! I think this is awesome until a SSD is available.

Here's my scores, for what they're worth...

    80GB 5400rpm

Not spectacular by any stretch of the imagination, but adequate for my purposes.

Right, most important thing is being satisfied with your purposes or not.

it's a Seagate 100GB 7200RPM, but I'm getting this thing replaced with the hitachi 100GB 7200RPM version cause it makes that sound like it hits the heads to the wall like once every 15 min or so ... which I don't like.

Is HD Tune a stand alone utility? Do I have to install it?

All it is (as far as I can tell) is just one .exe file....

google it, it's a free software. It installs and uninstalls perfectly fine. I keep mine installed cause it's like 1.2 MB, so no biggie what so ever

Here's my benchmark of my Seagate 120gb 7200 RPM drive. No clicking or anything wrong with it. Love it!

Edit: I've also added the OEM Fujitsu 120gb 5400 RPM that came with the laptop. It's running in the Ultrabay Adapter now.

    You should replace!
Not only noise but also the speed is not good! I cant believe it that it's 7200rpm HDD.
    Good luck replacement!

yeah, I don't know what's wrong with it but it doesn't seem to be near close to the hitachi one. I had to double check yesterday that its mode is ACHI or whatever is called in the BIOS, and yes, it is ..

this thing works like a 5400RPM drive .. and I paid extra for the upgrage :(

my hitachi HDD arrived a week ago, but the suckers at my appartment complex office didn't call me to come and pick it up :(

anyways, I got it and will install it this weekend, and will post how it performs. My guess is: much better damn it. :D

this is it. I don't like it. It performs as fast as the Seagate one, but drains my battery faster due to the higher power usage.
