i think it's pretty straightforward. can't remember the step by step process. there's a section in 3dmark11 for free users which support only 1 resolution setting.

Temps are high up there. Close to 100C. I have a .bat file on desktop with all the Nvid Inspector clock settings, then I just put the .bat file into Startup, so it will apply the settings when I boot into desktop. Temps without OC are about 15C-20C lower (~70C).

Temps are high, like what you said. I'm gonna do some more mods on it. So far I have fixed the wobbly touchpad by adding some spongy tape underneath it (see pic) View attachment 95821 . I have also replaced all the thermal pad on the Ultrabay 750m with proper Koolance thermal pad. Now that gpu idles at about 5C lower. Right now there's also like 8 small copper heatsinks stuck to the heatpipes/heatsink of the CPU/main GPU cooler, it helps with the temp a bit, but not much.

Once the postman delivers the heatsink and heatpipes, I am gonna try to fit in another pipe. I got a bad bin on the CPU, so I am limiting it to 36W, which it shows in ThrottleStop. I prob will get a better CPU (3840QM), and run it at lower speed to get better temps.

It's possible to have more heatpipes. Sager has it, but then they are much thicker. There's definitely space to put in bigger/more heatpipes in the Y500, not all space in the laptop is optimized.

I have been using Nvidia and AMD on and off, then back to Nvidia again. YMMV, but Nvidia driver support has always been better for me, esp when it comes to updating. The 750M SLI is probably not as strong as the 680M or 7970M, it should be about equal to a 675MX or slightly better than 675MX. The 750M could probably run at 1.3GHz on the core, but unfortunately the cooling on the Y500 isn't up to par to handle all that heat.

What pisses me off is that the so called 100% fan speed in BIOS is less than the actual 100% fan speed. Running the dust removal in Lenovo Energy Management will show you the real max speed of the fans. I hope that ppl at TechInferno figure out a way to control the fan speed.

By the way, I set the temp target in Nvid Inspector to be lower than the original setting, which was like 97C. I adjusted it to about 85C, but still maintain a +215MHz offset/OC on the core. The problem with heat on my Y500 is not with the GPU, but it's the CPU that's pumping out tons of heat.

Why don't you just use MSI afterburner? There is an option that says start on startup.

The Nvid Inspector settings are better, imo, and it's easy to apply. If I am overclocking without flashing the BIOS, I'd use MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision. I always prefer EVGA a bit more because its UI is more refined.

Ati's drivers don't stand a chance agianst Nvidia...it's a shame because I remember their motto as most reliable a couple of years back when I was a huge fan of the series (this was pre purchasing the nearly 600$ 2900 XT....which when launched was in some cases rivaled even by the 8600 GTS (150-200)....but mostly by the 8800 GTS 320 mB (approx 250-300$)....lol I was soooo pissed!)

7970M did one thing right, and thats the price point....although weaker than the 680m (in some cases much weaker actually...prob drivers). The 7970M's price is just amazing though...I remember configuring a LAptop and the price of the 7970 was about 150-200$...or w.e while the 680M was like 500$!!!! it was ridiculous!. So yeah....imo in terms of best price/performance for high end the 7970M takes the cake!

i just wish they would let us adjust the fan speed easily, you know, without flashing the bios. i hate running lenovo dust removal from time to time while gaming just to get the temps lower. really looks stupid lol. :D

Is it bad I have no idea what you mean by 'flashing the bios' ...

it's like replacing your bios with a new one. the bios that comes with the laptop is locked, advanced settings are disabled. fan speed is one of them. there's already a bios version with those settings unlocked, and to use that you have to replace your default bios with that new one, and it's a complicated and risky task. it's not as easy as installing a new software. you have to flash it. i guess that's the term used when you are installing to the chip itself, not to an OS or to disk.

Repost of something I posted in the general Y500 thread...

Finished both Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite on my GT750M SLI - both great - but slight edge to Tomb Raider for GOTY (so far).

Few things though, Tomb Raider was running off a single card since I guess the 314 drivers don't have an SLI profile for it yet. I was playing on High @ 1080p without TressFX (hair) and Tesselation and was getting 35-40+fps while playing on Ultra dipped down to 25-30fps. Game looks amazing and I can't wait to test it on SLI once the GT750M gets a driver update.

For Bioshock Infinite, played using both graphics cards at 1080p on High getting over 40FPS however there was a HUGE issue I was having with what looked like screen tearing (lines that constantly flickered when in motion). I thought this could be the "micro stuttering" problem people were talking about (since I haven't seen any issues yet) BUT even after I turned SLI off the same problem persisted. Framerates were smooth otherwise and finished the game regardless, not sure if anyone else can vouch for this.

could be vsync, i haven't tried bioshock though, but usually turning off vsync leads to screen tearing with other games.

hey, I've tried bioshock infinite and have run into similar problems as well. There are a number of guides on the internet to removing stutter from the game, but what worked best for me was simply lowering the texture detail to normal or low even and having all the other settings at what I wanted. Sure the textures were a little washed out looking but IMO it's the general art direction that makes a Bioshock game, not the texture quality, and for that I just need pretty COLORS. :D

honestly though, I didn't feel like infinite was REALLY a bioshock game... I guess it comes down to the fact I liked Rapture more than I liked Columbia :(

Guys, I got my Y500 750M SLI few days ago. I updated the graphics driver to the latest on the Nvidia website.

Regardless turning SLI on or off in the Nvidia panel, I am only still getting P2xxx score. I tried to adjust the PhysicX option as well, no use. The cause of the low score seems to be at the PysicX test, where I only achieved 2.5FPS.

I have done test with games and I am certain that both cards are working. The usage showing is 90%+ for both cards.

Is this a configuration or driver issue?

Mine is a single 750m, but it still gets 60FPS on SC2 (maxed settings) while I have a web browser and IDE running!

Yes I used throttlestop. I didn't check CPU temp but GPU was 75C MAX.

I am planning to buy a cooling pad to push it further.

Hey guys I don't feel like reading through this whole forum but I have a lenovo ideapad y510p with 750m sli and what not. No ssd. Can you guys please give me some things I can do to fix the fps problems I've been having? Most games that I use vsync on always have serious fps issues even when I KNOW i should be doing much better. Any help would mean the world to me because this has been stressing me out. Thanks everyone.

What exactly did you do on ThrottleStop in order to OC your CPU? Was it simply adjusting multiplier or is it like NI where you have to assign batch files?
