The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

I don't know why this has become an issue of late, but it has come to my attention users are quoting entire posts when replying to another post with some regularity. This would be an example:

There is no need to do this. This is particularly annoying when the user is quoting the post directly above their own. People are posting from ever smaller devices – phones, netbooks, PDAs, etc. When you do this, you're just creating more work the next reader who comes along.

Quoting is in my opinion intended to be used when replying to a particular point from another post, in this case quote the part you wish to reply to, not the whole thing. Or when the post you're replying to is a number of posts back. Again, quote the part you wish to reply to, not the whole thing. There may be instances, I can't think of one myself, where this may be of use, but I'd like to nip this in the bud before it becomes more commonplace than it is now. Remember, being courteous and respectful are, as always, a requirement when posting here.
