Potential insights about shipping delays

I configured a T61 on 5/22 and it is still set to ship for 6/11
Since prices went down ~$50 I created an e-quote for a price adjustment. My e-quote has an "estimated shipping date" of 8/29 which it seems a lot of people have been dealing with.

I went ahead and compared the two orders with a "diff" utility and there are two interesting differences. The one with the later shipping date has the two following parts in addition to all of the parts of the one shipping in June:

42X0929 SBB MECH MISC PARTS

and

Code:

42V9634 SBB STAND LCD C/B:14.1”W/ CAM

I'm guessing that these are the part numbers causing the delay, since this is the only difference between my two orders (though I configured the laptops exactly the same).

In order to try to clear up all of this confusion, I ask anyone with a pending order to answer the questions in the above poll so that we can see if there is a trend.

Edit: I am not sure that this is what is causing the delay. It is merely something I noticed, and I hope that people answering the poll based on their situation will verify whether this pattern exists or not

Edit2: I just want to mention that both configurations were for a wsxga+ w/ cam and thus both have part 42X1671 ** SBB 14.2"WXGA+TFT,W/ CAMERA

 

What is "42X0929 SBB MECH MISC PARTS" ????

 

probably a screw, hinge, etc.

 

If it were a screw hinge wouldn't all the T61's have it? According to the first post those were the differences in the two configurations which are causing the delay.

I don't have anywhere to vote b/c my system is scheduled to ship tomorrow (March 31st) and does NOT have either of those parts! I'm sure tomorrow I will get the email saying it is delayed.

 

My order doesn't have those parts, but I ordered it without cam and it's scheduled for 8/28.
But you're saying that you configured both orders exactly the same? Shouldn't they have all the same components?

 

i'm gonna call it now...part #42X0929 (the misc. mech parts) is the problem.

It's alarming to now see that the X3100 AND the Quadro are both listed as items that, upon choosing, may delay your order.

YOU CAN'T UNCHOOSE THEM.

It would almost be funny, if I weren't after a T61.

They should just write, choosing this laptop may cause a delay in your order. I don't think it's a specific part people are choosing that is causing the delay. It's just something in general delaying all the laptops because I don't think anyone has been recieving them. My est. shipping date was today and it was pushed back to 8/30 without an email or any kind of call saying sorry for the delay. What great customer service!

I found the same problem. My question is Can you use the quote to get the price adjustment since the quote has two extra parts.

 

Lenovo is going through a real tough time right now. Bogus shipping dates, call center is down, t61's aren't being shipped. I think we'd all be wise to short sell some lenovo stock when the earnings come out for this quarter

 

Its looking like the ones shipping in June overwhelmingly do not have those parts... interesting..

The 15.4" launch could have been the reason for additional delay as well maybe?

 

that's interesting.. you'd expect the smaller panels to be more available just by virtue of their size.. of course, perhaps the chassis (which is a different size) is under-supplied or something

 

My T61 is showing 6/19 and it had all the parts that Lenovo warned would "Delay" my order. WHo knows whats going on in their system

 

If you havent heard mine was shipped today 6/6, ordered on 5/29 with only the misc part.

So for those that ordered between 5/9 and 5/24 hope that your order configuration is corrected by Lenovo from the data entry error on Lenovo's part and that it actually gets through the manufacturing process. This finally explains why those that ordered outside of that time frame have real shipping dates (between 6/20 and 6/28 for me with the 15.4" WXGA screen as that problem is a component shortage in their supply chain and their waiting on the part-the LCD screen) and those that ordered within the problematic time frame (data entry error/programming error on Lenovo's part!?) have said they have a generic 8/31 shipdate as it was rejected due to invalid configuration.

 

I would say it is definitly 42X0929 SBB MECH MISC PARTS that is holding things up.

The other one mentioned in this poll depends on what monitor/camera choice you make.

 

Just a note here, my order said it would ship in late August (almost Sept) but they just shipped it out day before yesterday (6/6/07). Placed 5/25.

Yes on 42X0929, no on the other part.
SBB MECH MISC PARTS

 

The other part depends on what you ordered though since it is the screen/camera choice.

For example his was 634 because he had the WXGA+ with Camera. Mine is 633 because I have the WXGA+ w/o camera.

 

dammit. my order doesnt have the SBB MECH MISC PARTS. but for whatever reason, my order still hasnt been delayed? still set to ship on the 11th.
