i want to use Ubuntu 10.04 but i want to have those great power tools that are talked about with Ubuntu..
The being able to turn all the power settinsg down to stretch out B life etc...
can this be done in linux.. how would i go about doing this..
i know turboboost is built into the Proc i dont have to wrry about that.. but how about adjusting the power settings so like on battery ... i can change its "mode" vs on plugin i can change the mode as well?

This can definitely be done in linux. I am not sure exactly how to do it with Ubuntu/Gnome but with Fedora/KDE you go to KDE System Settings -->advanced tab-->power management.
There you can set the power profiles for battery and plugged in. On plugged in I have maximum performance and on battery I have different profiles depending on % of remaining battery (to stretch the battery). -
Ubuntu already has a power management policy for laptops that is actually pretty good. You can do the basics by System - Preferences - Power Management.
I have a 9-cell and i get 6-7 hours
