The way I understand it is (as I said earlier), batteries don't like to be deep discharged (100% down to 5%) and they don't like to be topped off (charged from 95% to 100%).
So the threshold you have now is not horrible for batterylife as long a you're machine is mainly plugged in. The idea is that it charges your battery to 100%, and once the battery trickle discharges down past 95, it recharges the battery.
While you are topping off your battery, which is bad, you're not doing it often if you're primarily using the laptop plugged in. And for many people, it's important to have their battery at 100% on a moment's notice.
40% - 95% seems to be the most popular setting for conserving battery lifespan.

Out of curiosity, with this update, do adjustable thresholds (don't start until x%, only charge up to y%) return to/get added to the SL series?
They never went away for my on my T61p. -
how come on this page it's still not updated?

Love the new PW 3.20! My thresholds are 41% - 90% and since I'm mostly plugged in when workin' on my thinkpad, the battery stays at 90%. Since I'm out workin' in Asia - there are a lot of blackouts here, so I can't pull the battery out either. So, this works perfectly.
Power Manager 3.20 is out
