    Power Manager: What does "Automatic Optical Drive Power Off" mean?

    The options are "enabled" and "disabled" but it sounds like one of those trick double negative things. ("Are you saying you didn't neglect to not read the manual which doesn't clearly not explain it?")

    this powers off your optical drive when it is not used for a long period of time to save on battery life.

    Precisely. The UltraBay is switched off, as seen by the small green LED next to your CD drive. I doubt it saves all that much power, but I enable it anyway so the light switches off after a while :rolleyes:

    Wouldn't the power savings be greater if there was actually a disc in the drive, and you didn't access it for a while?

    yes... the power saving is greater if there was actually a disc in it and then the drive gets switched off.

    I recommend enabling it. I save about 1 watt of power consumption, and that is with no CD in the drive. It's a good feature to have.
