With the latest Intel X3100 driver (my version is *.1437) I have had the following problems:
    - Disappearing mouse pointer
    - Screen flashes/blanks every time I unplug the power cord.
    - Screen flashes after waking from sleep

It turns out the solution is to go here:
Graphics Properties... -> Display Settings -> Power Settings

There you will find a screen that allows two important options:
    - Intel Display Power Saving Technology
    - Intel Display Refresh Rate Switching Technology

Turn these suckers OFF! Then you'll see your mouse pointer again and not have the display driver fighting itself all the time. I just leave the refresh rate at 60Hz and forget about it.

I have these settings on my 14" R61's x3100 graphic properties dialog... In my system, the "Intel Display Power Saving Technology" box was checked by default and it's not caused the symptoms you describe. Perhaps the "Refresh Rate" setting is the culprit. It seems especially unnecessary as LCDs tend to run at only 60Hz (I suppose it would be helpful if connected to an external display, though)

hmm, i don't have any power settings in my gma driver for x3100. I am running on an external monitor.

what bothers me though is that i have only 60 hz refresh on my 22 monitor at 1680 x 1050 although the gma and the monitor both support higher refresh rates. hmmm
