When I am running on battery, my screen brightness seems to reset constantly - the screen brightness meter -- green vertical lines on the bottom of my screen -- appears. It's very distracting. Can anyone explain how I can access a setting that would eliminate the appearance of the brightness meter? Thank you. I am operating in XP.

Double click on the battery in the bottom right and it should open up the thinkvantage battery management screen. From there I am guessing because you are on battery it is set to optimize power source. Click the little black arrow next to system settings. One of the options should be lower display brightness after a certain amount of time. Change that to your desired time. Remember it is just do it to save battery though.
