I went from a standard battery to an extended 6-cell battery on my T61. Does this system need a 90w power supply rather than the 65w PS that came with it?
My system is the 7661 and my co-worker has a 7663. His system came with a 90w PS and mine with a 65w PS. Why is that?
thanks

the 7661 refers to T61 with the T7300 processor which I'm guessing is yours.
Your friend has a T7500 processor.
you should be fine with just the 65w PS.
I found this link which should help you

I dont know why you got the 65w, in theory it shouldnt matter. If you want the detailed explanation in why it would work I can explain it to you. That is if you want lol -
both power supplies work with any thinkpads t60/x60 or newer generation.
no idea why you don't get the same charger though (i would've thought all T's apart from t400s came with the 90w charger)
cpu has nothing to do with the charger. cpu has nothing to do with 7661 and 7663 either. here's a 7661 with t7500 : http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-t61-7661/1707-3121_7-32826246.html -
Here is the deal with the different power supplies:
1.) All Thinkpad's with discreete graphics get the 90w adapter
2.) All Thinkpad's with Intel integrated graphics get the 65w adapter
Since you only changed battery you will not have to change power adapter. -
the 90 watt adapter allows the battery to charge faster, but it is nearly twice as heavy as the 65 watt version.

The small and lighter 65W one is the right one for you.
Once, my friend forgot his T400's 90W adapter at home and successfully recharged his battery using my T61's 65w. Did I worry for my adapter ... -

Thanks everyone for the clarification.

But be careful if you use a 65W adapter + discrete graphics while playing + charging your battery
