I recently installed the 3.05 version of Power manager and have a few questions.
First, I used to be able to left click on the green battery bar icon once to control switching between power plans, double click to bring up the power manager, and right click to open the contextual menu.
With the new version, the single click opens the power manager fully, and I have to either choose my power plan there or use the Fn + F3 buttons to get to the power plans. It was much easier with just the single click function, I rarely ever had to open the power manager. I only bring this up since running power manager is a bit CPU intensive and battery life is slightly affected.
More importantly, I'm wondering if there's a way to backup all my power manager settings. It would definitely be a useful feature for people with multiple thinkpads or users who format their thinkpads often, since setting them up all over again takes a bit of time.

I noticed this today when I updated my PM software. I couldn't find any sort of setting to change the behavior.
I ended up using this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/21990-power-plan-create-shortcut-change-power-plan.html to make shortcuts on my desktop to my most used power plans. Not ideal, but quicker than going to Fn+F3 to select the plan, IMO. -
yeah the Fn+F3 isn't a good option, I'm always worried that I'll hit Fn+F4 instead and end up putting the machine to sleep. I also don't like having to add shortcuts. I just don't understand why a newer version of the software would have less functionality.
I might just switch back to the older version of power manager. -
There is also a 3.12 version out now, but that doesn't fix the left click menu thing either.
It also doesn't remember that Bluetooth was on after Sleep. Annoying. You have to turn it back on after the computer awakes from sleep. -
Am I missing something? I have Power Manager 3.12 and a single left click still allows me to switch between power plans.

I have Win7 and same issue as OP. I wonder if it is something that works on Vista but not 7?
-
I'm on Win 7 x64 Ultimate as well, sounds like it's a win 7 issue.

Well it certainly seems like this is an issue with W7. I guess it has something to do with how under W7 Power Manager icon was integrated into the taskbar. But I can't beleive it would be too hard to react to left button same way as in Vista.

Not to hijack this thread, but I'm getting another issue as well - my screen brightness preset levels for AC power and battery keep changing by themselves to my last setting, which is really annoying. Anyone else have this issue? -
Haven't seen that one yet.
As I mentioned above, mine also forgets that Bluetooth was turned ON if I put the computer to sleep. It remembers it through reboots, but not through sleeps. What is Lenovo QA doing recently? Winter sleep? -
I think it's a safe bet that there will be yet another power manager update coming out pretty soon.
EDIT:
BTW, anyone have an idea on how to backup PM settings for all the different profiles? That'd be a neat trick. -
While we're on the topic of power manager: does anybody know how to turn off that annoying "battery stretch" notification that pops up next to the battery gauge?
-
slightly ot: i'm still wondering why i have to enable c4 on battery in the ini files for every single power plan. if they are changing the menus they should finally add a checkbox for this (since i have no use/voltage saving for rmclock on my lv cpu).
