Can I remove any of the preinstalled thinkvantage software? I don't want to do a clean install would rather just free up some space if I could just remove some of the things I don't need.

I uninstalled a lot of portions. The thing you will have to watch out for is stuff that you think is there not being there.

I wouldn't bother with a clean install. I would either uninstall, or preferably disable the service [type "services.msc" into the run command] without uninstalling (in case you need it later). You may also want to disable some windows services at the same time, check Black Viper's webpage for details on all the stock Windows services.

I would definitely hold onto Power Manager, Presentation Director, Access Connections, Active Protection system, On screen display (volume/brightness info), Client Security (if you want to use the TPM/fingerprint reader for storing passwords), the UltraNav/TrackPoint driver, and possibly Rescue and Recovery if you want to use it for backups.

The other services (e.g. messenger, easy eject, full screen magnifier, etc.) can be disabled without any serious loss of functionality.
