14" T420 with a 2.5Ghz i5, 1600x900 screen for only $699.00 New, full warranty, free shipping, but you'll probably have to pay local state tax !!

There was 3, now there is 2.

However, it only has 2GB Memory (I hope on 1 DIMM) and a 250GB 5400 Drive. It's only $30.00 for a 4GB DIMM these days.

    Still not a bad deal.

Theres also some sale going on, even for custom orders and you can get pretty good price their too and configure it the way you want.

By the way a lot of folks warned of the High DPI with the 1600x900 screen.

Yet nobody seems to complain about the X220 12.5 1366x768 screen or the old Faithful T60/T61 14" 1400x1050.

If you check your DPI those are all extremely close in DPI.

    The X220 12.5" 1366x768 is 125 DPI
    The T60/T61 14.1" is 125 DPI
    The T420 14.1" is 130 DPI (that's only a 4% increase)

You can check it out with a DPI calculator DPI Calculator / PPI Calculator

Anyone know why it takes 4 days for them to ship a laptop from the Outlet.

I'l not talking travel time. Just for them to get it out the door. I assume it's already built if it's in the outlet.

That's not a great deal. There's been T420 for closer to $600 with that configuration.

Indeed, this isn't such a great deal. A new custom order T420 with those specs would be roughly around the same price.

    No it wouldn't.

Cheapest T420 on Lenovo site with that Processor and Display is $917.00 Just tried 2 minutes ago on Lenovo.com

However, that would include 2GB more memory (worth $15.00 because min. is now 4GB) and a bigger/faster drive (worth maybe $50.00 because min drive is 7200 320GB). But I like 5400's because they tend to do better on battery, so it's a trade off. And the size is plenty big for my needs.

So if you could configure such a machine it would come out to about $850.00 or so.

So if you think 850 equals 700, ok, what ever you say, maybe it does on your laptop.

Don't forget that Lenovo's pricing changes often, as well as decent sales popping up often as well. So while they may be high at the minute with CTO, that doesnt make the outlet ones a steal. Before buying my X220, the T420 was also a contender. I have seen lower prices on the T420's several times then this, and that was months ago.

Not trying to knock your purchase, but unless one needed to buy a T420 right here right now today, it's really not that big of a deal. :)

Show me one link with that cpu and screen, that's new, even close that price.

Expired slick deals, completed ebay, or current, anything.

Any no, I'm not a stident and I don't want a new credit card for discounts.

That is one of the best deals today. And today is today. I could wait a few months for more mips per $. That's always true.

I priced this out just now. You didn't state which battery the system came with, so I priced it out with both (and left everything else on stock because you didn't specify those either).

    6 cell.
    9 cell.

Your two images are both of the same 9-cell quote, but that's a nice price.

Unfortunately we don't get those prices from the US Lenovo site. That exact setup with 6-cell battery, 4GB RAM (can't specify 2G) and 10% coupon is $872.10. :(

That looks like student Pricing in the URL. I said I'm not a student.

The price I got is very close to that student pricing without a student discount.

After looking up some old prices I'll have to retract what I said earlier. This isn't the absolute best deal, but it is still a great deal. The best deal I've ever seen is that same config + 4GB RAM + 500GB HDD for ~$690. The increase in RAM and HDD would probably cost you $50 out of pocket, which brings you up to ~$750.

Add the 2x2 Antenna to it and it would be $892.00 -ish that was not a requirement of mine but it's included in the price I got.

It's a good deal, Today. Tomorrow it will be different.

I suspect Lenovo wants to get rid of 5400 and 2G Memory (no longer available to order) and that's why the price was good. Because it appears even though it's on the Outlet it is being built to order.

Oh, whoops. With a 6 cell it is $14.79 less.

Yes, it is student pricing. However, there was a 25% off sale that ended just 2 days ago. With the same config as the one I showed in the screenshot, it would've been $726.75. Take $15 off for a 6 cell battery instead of a 9 cell. And last time I checked you don't even have to be a student (or have an SPC card) to order from the SPC card affinity site. Though, I am a student and own a SPC card.

The 2x2 6205 wireless card adds about $15.

You can get it cheaper here and you don't even need to be a student.

Outlet stuff are usually not the cheapest, so I won't buy from that unless it's a discontinued product like the T410s/ X201/ X301

Just trying to help, not to disappoint. Everyone has a right to be informed ;)

The B&N site says students, faculty and staff so I assume this is education related. Can I really get the same discount while not being affiliated with education?

I was on the outlet site this morning where they had a great price on three X220's for $603. In the minute it too me to go to the Lenovo site to configure to compare pricing and realized it was a $300 savings they were all gone. :O

I've seen the $699.00 T420's coming and going too.

I'd keep watching. I think I saw those X220's too, and like the T420 I'll bet it had the 5400 RPM drive and probably an i3 processor.

I had considered an X220 IPS as well. If you get a X220, ya just gotta get the IPS screen.

Yes, I bought both of mine through that B&N site. It's the same process as the normal site, except cheaper.

It was an i5, 4GB and 320GB 7200RPM drive. It was nicely specced.

Oh my! I just ran a T520 config through the B&N site and the savings are HUGE. T520, i5-2520M, 1600x900, 4GB, NVS graphics, 320GB 7200RPM, cam, BT, WiFi 6300, 6-cell for $870. Thanks for the heads up on this site. A $255 savings from the Lenovo site.

Seems like the BN affinity is the same as EPP (employee pricing). With the specs you listed, I see $871.33 for W7Pro and $833.08 for W7Home on EPP.

The outlet page had what seemed like good prices. Notably, I saw a T420s that was nearly identical to a unit I CTO'd on Monday. The line item cost on my build was $1,257.82, so the outlet model would have been about a $150 saving. Then I realized that after factoring in the cost of the parts differed (smartcard reader, $7.50; BT, $15; 3yr depot, $65), the actual savings would be much closer to $50, which would definitely be exceeded and then some having to order those FRUs separately at full price, pay shipping on them and then spend time installing them.

What I bought and had delivered a week ago, for $820.04 shipped:

    ThinkPad T420i
    Intel Core i5-2410M Processor
    Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64
    14.0 HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
    Intel HD 3000 graphics
    4 GB DDR3 - 1333MHz (1 DIMM)
    UltraNav with TrackPoint & touchpad
320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    DVD recordable multiburner
    9 cell Li-Ion Battery - 55++
    Intel Centrino N1000
    3 year on-site warranty

Keeping up on coupon codes and partner offers is a good idea. Fatwallet is a very useful site for such things. This price was achievable at the time by going through MasterCard Marketplace, but I'm not sure if that is possible today.

One thing I've seen before is that the Lenovo pricing can be quite uneven on warranties. If you have several models you're keen on, pricing each of them up in the configurator is worth the time to see what you can get for warranties. The differences can be pretty large; my wife's X201 came with 4-year onsite support with damage protection for the normal cost of 2-year onsite support without damage protection at the time.
