I don't see any options within Diskeeper to disable run at startup. I tried using Windows Defender to remove the app from start up but Diskeeper insist on doing so.

Any quick fixes aside from removing Diskeeper all together?

    Thanks,
    Bryan

Go to start and either type in services.msc in Vista or go to run and type services.msc in Xp. You will see a choice for Diskeeper. Right click on it and click Disable and click ok. Word of caution, if you have automatic defrag on in Diskeeper this setting will not allow that to happen. I have this program and about once a month or so I go in and turn the service on by changing the setting to manual and starting the service on the start button. Once it's done I go back in and turn back to disabled then hit the stop button. If you leave it on manual it will still run when you reboot your windows. Hope this helps.

Great advice, I was trying to get this to work. Even through editing msconfig it still would start up, but you're tip helped. Thanks.

You are really better off just removing diskeeper alltogether.

The Windows defragment tool is based on diskeeper. So you already have it installed anyway! LINK to Microsoft knowledge base

Yeah except for that fact the MS defrag takes forever while diskeeper only takes a few minutes or so.

True, but the windows defrag tool is a stripped down version that microsoft licensed from Diskeeper. It doesnt have the same out of the box functionality or performance that the diskeeper full versions do.

Besides, the latest DK versions are much faster and give more disk optimization options than the microsoft defraggers do; and they have a useful autodefrag mode too (which BTW, is disabled if you disable dkservice.exe).

Agreed, only thing about the service is that it takes a chunk of memory to keep running all the time. That's the only reason I disabled it.

Yep, the Windows built-in defragmenter absolutely sucks. It's probably enough for the average consumer who doesn't care too much about defragmentation anyway, but the current versions of diskeeper are much more up-to-date and better than that old stripped down version.

If you disable real-time defrag though, consider getting perfectdisk instead? It's not any worse, and it's a bit cheaper.

What is perfectdisk, never heard of that?
