I couldn't think of a better subject title than that...but anyway, this one goes out primarily to X-series owners, but anyone else who uses laptops out in the wild.

Some time ago, I recently bought a brand-new X61s. Now I'm considering bringing it with me when I go abroad to Southeast Asia (Indonesia) for travel. However, I'm feeling squeamish, given that I paid a fair bit of dough for it in the first place.

How do you other fellow readers and forumgoers deal with laptops on the go?

The way I see it is that you paid a premium to buy a laptop that is rugged, durable, light, and most importantly portable. Use it.

Well you can't beat the X series for size and weight for travel. If you need a decently powerful machine to use on the go, that is the one to have.

How long are you going for? Will you have it with you all the time? If you plan to leave it somewhere while you go out, do you have reasonable ways to keep it safe (locked room, nice sized safe, etc...)?

Will you need a PC, or have the ability to use the internet or anything where you will be?

If you need it, take it and be careful. If you don't need it, there is no sense in lugging the extra 4-5 lbs and worrying about it all the time.
