On going sale for the X220, but I'm wondering has anyone been able to lower it further if one calls the sales department and sweet talks them ?

Did it for the T420. Doesn't hurt to try.

I got a discount on the warranty and a couple of accessories while ordering my X220. Only amounted to about $100 though.

Yes. Reps can do better than the 5% coupon available for discount sites like Student, Visa, etc.

I have the same experience. I didn't even ask the rep for a discount but I was going to pay $4400.00 for my new 520 and magically it went to 3800.00

3800 USD for W520 in USA, what spec did you order it with?

I wont ignore it, just checking if one can get a good price by talking. However, if the price is lower than the T420 with a better cpu and more memory, I will give it some silly consideration again :D
