I bought my wife's T440S a while back and when it first arrived I placed a 120GB 840 EVO in it with a fresh Windows 7 install (it was bought with Windows 7) and it ran fine for ~6 months. Unfortunately, the drive got filled up so I replaced the drive with a Crucial MX100 250GB and did another fresh install of Windows 7 and it seemed to go fine. About a week or so after the install I got the first bluescreen and when it rebooted I got an error that there was no HDD found. When I powered the system off completely then back on, it booted normally and went into Windows 7 fine after I chose boot Windows normally. I didn't think anything of it at first but these are becoming more and more frequent. The system blue screens, and upon reboot cannot recognize the HDD until I completely power it down and back on, then it boots normally. What should I start doing to troubleshoot this? Is it a compatibility problem, bad SSD, bad motherboard? Any help will be appreciated.

Edit: I should mention that I already made sure all dirvers were up to date, the T440S has the latest BIOS, and I couldn't find an updated firmware for the MX100 so I assume it's current.

Hmmm...I just bought a 250GB MX100 for my desktop. Checking it in another machine, which may not be practical, would be an option. If you could toss the Samsung back in to see how it goes would be another. Have you tried running CrystalDisk to see how the numbers stack up? The drive should be under warranty. Maybe contacting Crucial wouldn't be a bad idea.

Unfortunately this is our only computer at this time as I was waiting for the new mobile GPUs before I replaced mine so I can't toss it in something else. I still have the samsung somewhere I can try it again if need be but swapping drives in this is a bit timely so I am downloading CrystalDiskInfo (I hope this is the right thing) and I will post the results.

Edit: Here is the screenshot from Crystal Disk

The actual message I get after bluescreen is:

2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)
    Press Esc to continue

I bought a 480GB Crucial M500 when I first got my t440s, and I had that problem - it would only detect the SSD half the time at best, and it would say "2100 Detection error on HDD0" at POST. That drive quickly got returned in favor of a 500GB 840 Evo, and I've had no problems there since. I recommended that a friend who got a t440s get an 840 evo to go with it, and he hasn't had any problems either.

I'd say the drive is the most likely culprit, at least as much any can say over the internet.

Thing is, I had the exact same issue when I tried a 120GB M500 in there - and that drive was bought several months earlier. On the other hand, others say they've used M500's in t440s just fine.

I put the EVO back in, did a clean install, and so far so good, no problems. I will just order a bigger Samsung drive, thanks all for the help.
