installed a clean version of vista ultimate x64 today. installed the drivers in prescribed order. after successfully installing the switchable graphics,i installed the remaining 10 drivers in a single go , added a firewall, anti virus , installed office, couple of adobe software. it starts until the bootup screen and gets struck with a hard disk whine. i disabled all the startup items from safe mode but the problem persists

Don't take it personally. Vista has a mind of its own. I am afraid you will need to reinstall the whole thing again. Re-install one software check for probs and do so until you identify the culprit.
I have Vista Business 32 and i get probs on normal install too. I have to mod the thing manually. -
I have a t61p and have never had a problem with it.
-
go to the clean install guide and install in that order, with reboots after EACH component.
I'm running Vista business 64 with NO problems. made the clean install on 2 hard drives, with no problems in each case -
that will take forever. but thanks for the headsup. i did a system restore, lost some 10 software and it booted up
will system restore removes all the installation files? -
managed to narrow out the problem to kerio firewall for x64. too bad i installed whole vista ultimate again. i got the same problem again so i have to use system restore to get out of the mess. the power manager icon on task manager disappeared, what should i do?
any suggestions for good or free firewall software for vista ultimate 64?
i got the first taste of switchable graphics today. but my battery is hovering all over the place from 7 hours to 3 hours. no idea why.
i also need the driver for sd/mmc card reader in x64. can anyone point me in the correct direction
thanks,
Martin -
you mean the icon on the taskBAR, right?
lauch power manager, go to the options tab, click the box
if clicked, unclick and apply. WAIT. then click and apply. WAIT.
repeat as necessary (temperemental p.o.c.)
I use vista firewall. any reason you don't? maybe I should get myself one, too..
What is your battery usage after letting it sit for 3-5 min. with no apps running?
the driver is the 4in1 card reader driver, you can find it in the lenovo site -
the battery life is very good. i use a 9 cell. when i left it over night downloading through Ethernet with screen off, the battery still showed 3 hours left with screen on. no apps running but constant hdd read writes(5400rpm). i cant help you with the 3 -5 minutes time as the battery meter constantly updates every two minute or so. is this some kind of bug?
