I have the centrino ultimate wi-fi card and have a d-link router (I don't remember the model but it looks like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e5/Dlink_wireless_router.jpg )
It is one floor below of where my t510 is. The problem is that my internet is unreliable. Most of the time it will go fast but then it will become very slow all of a sudden. Sometimes it will the wi-fi bars on my status bar will go down to 3 but other times it will remain at 5. Also Windows doesn't find any problems when I do "diagnose" and my wifi-card is shown as running fine in device manager.
Could it be that it's because my wi-fi card is too new for my router? If so which router would you guys recommend?

I can only give you an opinion and in my opinion D-Link routers are the worst. If I were you, I'd get a dual-band (2.4 & 5GHz) LinkSys/Cisco or Belkin router. They're not cheap but they will allow you to use the power of your Ultimate-N wireless card. Personally, I like Belkins because they are so easy to configure.
Have you tried moving the router? There may be something large and metal between you and the router that is blocking or absorbing the signal. Wi-Fi is a radio signal and you have to make adjustments to get the best reception. -
I have a netgear, they are pretty reliable.

Would you say this is a good router (It's a Belkin)? It's on sale at dell.ca:

lol i have a dlink dir-825 and it's been serving me well for more than a year. Sometimes dlink does release bad firmware that can cause problems but they do get fixed in later revisions. my 6200 card in the x201 works very well with it.

Any large appliances in the path between you and the router? Microwaves in particular wreak havoc on wifi signals when they're turned on.
