i bought it 2 weeks ago and when i play games for 10 or 15 min the CPU and RAM temperatures are very nice BUT the GPU temperature gets to 85 or higher !!! i can't play any game like FarCry3 or Metal Gear and the laptop is still new :( , is the problem is the thermal paste ?? should i get a cooling pad , would it be effective ??
Note : i am running on single 750M not sli
    Waiting for your help

Have you lifted the back end of the laptop? It allows for more air intake.

Also you can undervolt the CPU to help drop the combined temperatures using Intel XTU. Repasting could help as OEMs tend to lay the paste pretty thick which is backwards

yes i put it on a desk (good air intake ?) , i really don't like to manipulate voltages and those other things xD , so i think i am gonna check the paste and maybe buy a cooling pad , Thanks for your help

The easiest step you can do is to put something under the notebook to lift it up allowing air to flow easily. I sometime place the power adapter underneath the battery compartment. You should be able to see temperature drop by 5C or more.

Don't know if its the fact that it raises it off the ground, or the fans themselves, but my cooling pad works pretty well. Playing BF4 on ultra with AA off (SLI model with the 750m), master GPU is at around 70c and the ultrabay GPU is at 80c after playing for about an hour. Playing Diablo III on max settings, neither GPU goes past 70c.

If you are talking about the GPU Ultrabay, then yes, they overheat all the time. I had one and tried everything, repasting, etc. Had to return mine.

u returned the whole notebook for that ? or did you just return the additional GPU ? is there other reasons beside the excessive heat ??

For the past few gaming laptops I owned I simply placed an empty pack of cigarettes under the back. It made a 7-15 oC difference in temperatures, especially when gaming for a few hours straight. This or something similar works better than most cooling pads.

This is the one I bought:
    http://www.amazon.ca/Thermaltake-Massive23-Notebook-Oversized-CLN0015/dp/B003ZUXXWO

I'm gonna try playing with just something to raise the laptop to see whether that makes the same difference or if the fan on the pad is actually doing some work. I did try playing Diablo III once with the laptop in my lap and it got crazy hot, in the upper 90s for the ultrabay, but it makes sense since the fan intake is at the bottom of the laptop (a very tiny opening mind you) and having that flat on the ground doesn't really let any cool air reach the ultra bay.

i tried doing that already and it reduced the temperature by 4 or 5 c and it was good but i am looking for further cooling

I'm not entirely sure if this is an option that is even open to 750m y510p users, but you can undervolt the 650m in the y500 using a modified vbios, nvidia inspector, and batch files. Go to Tech inferno for more information.

From what I see, the fan being on for the cooling pad doesn't make a huge difference, 2c to 3c cooler, if at all (this could be due to other forces, considering I didn't test it more than once lol). I still prefer some sort of pad as opposed to an object propping the laptop up, but that is just me. Thus, to me a cooling pad isn't really necessary, but elevation of some sort is a must.

Yes, this will reduce performance since there is less power going to the GPU, but will not damage the GPU.
