Currently, I am using Vista Home Basic 32-bit and I haven't had time to downgrade to XP yet (because I have exams, and i just got this laptop).

    I have a x61.

Whenever I try to install the latest x3100 drivers from the Intel site, I get an error along the following lines:

the driver being installed is not validated for this computer...

Does anybody know, how I can install the Intel drivers? It seems they are forcing me to use the Lenovo ones.

    Thanks for your help.

You need to run the installer and extract the files then don't click Next after it's extracted the files. Instead go to Device Manager and right-click on the X3100 and select Update driver. Then go to Browser my computer or whatever and browse to the folder where the files where extracted then click next. It should then install the drivers. Ask more questions if need any more clarification or help.

I did that too, and it gave me the same error... unless I am browsing the wrong files?

Actually this time around, it says I have the latest drivers installed already. Which can't be true. Since the newest ones are 15. and whats listed in my device manager is 14.

Also, I installed COD4 (just wanted to try it out). When I set a lower res 640 x 480, it literally just makes a smaller square on my screen and blacks everything around it out (like a border). Is there a way I can tell the computer to stretch the screen?

to change how Vista handles the lower resolutions:

    ctrl-alt-f11

    or

right click the desktop, "graphics options", "panel fit", "full screen (no border)"

At the time I was had this problem, I was using XP. The solution I found was too uninstall all drivers on the laptop. This would whipe the system clean of Lenovo drivers. I then proceeded to re-install the new Intel drivers. This method worked effectively.
