I got myself a W510 and i will do a clean install wiping the disk, however i faced a problem installing Windows 7 Pro from my USB stick, everything loads and after i clicked Install Windows 7 i get a Load Driver message saying "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing........."

What's this all about? i am installing from USB stick which i've used to my other computers.

you could try something like YUMA or Universal USB Installer. Both can be downloaded from here, and both can be used to install various type of OS including Windows 7 and Linux from a USB stick.

There is no problem with my stick as it works with my other computers to install from, i have tested the stick right now and it works with my other PC to install from.

However there seems to be a bug with the BIOS in W510 or some bug with Windows 7 installation program.

I have taken a picture of it, when it asks me to browse for the driver the Windows 7 installation can't recognize neither of my USB sticks, i have two sticks connected on the W510.

As you can see in the picture below only the RAMDISK is accessible and my HDD and DVD, USB sticks are not even present.

I can't be alone with this problem.

I have latest BIOS 1.35 flashed and read the README.TXT and it says:

Version 1.35 (BIOS ID: 6LET74WW) [for BIOS ID 6Lxxxxxx-based computer]
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    [Problem fixes]
    - Fix an issue that a USB device is not recognized by Windows connecting
    to USB 3.0 port.

This doesn't seem to fixed the problem?!?

    Pictures below of my problem.

First i choose to boot from my USB Stick Sandisk Cruzer which Windows 7 files are placed, i know these files and the USB stick works with my other computer.

    Next step when it boots

    I press Install Now

This warning message comes up, can't find driver device

I click browse and try to find my USB stick, none of my USB sticks are listed, is this a Lenovo BIOS bug or Windows 7 Installation detection problem??

My next step would be to try a different usb or a version of Windows 7.

If you don't have one, then just throw the driver package on your Windows7_OS disk

I solved it, the usb port at the back of W510 does work to install from as it seems to be USB2 and not USB3 as the ports at the side.

I have to slipstream the USB3 drivers to the Win7 install next time.

Curious that the motherboard understands enough about the ports to let you boot, but then hangs once the OS decides it needs USB3 drivers. I seem to recall having the same problem way back when IDE ports were new and some chipsets weren't supported on the install media. Damned annoying, especially the bogus error message.

I'm a rank amateur in this, but what happens if you move the "Boot from USB Drive" to the top of the boot order list?

I seem to remember that here with my Linux on a stick, it made a difference.

Problem is simple, the Win7 installation media does not contain drivers for the new USB3 ports which means it fails during installation asking for drivers.

The simplest thing to do is to install from the USB2 port at the back instead of messing around with adding drivers for USB3.

Either you can slipstream the Win7 ISO and add USB3 drivers to it or wait til Windows 8 releases which will contain the drivers or do as i did, install from the USB2 port.
