Hey guys, I have a user with a t400 that is out of warranty, I cleaned out the fan, which wasn't bad, and bumped the battery charge settings down to stop charging at 96%.
The problem he has is when in the dock for awhile it will randomly shut off and won't come on until the battery is removed. It will power back on when battery is replaced or plugged into a/c. We've swapped batteries and that didn't help. I just adjusted the charge settings so we will see there.
Being out of warranty I am stuck in a hard place to decide whether to fix it or try to squeeze 2k out of someone for a new laptop.

Does it do this when it isn't docked ?

There was an issue with T60 systems and that dock(the T60, T61, and T400/500 docking solutions are the same) where the hooks that latched into the system itself would ground out on the chassis and cause all sorts of strange problems with the notebook. Check to see if the latching hooks are bare metal, or if they have rubber or plastic covers on them.

But I asked about this happening undocked because if it does, then it isn't the dock.
