I have a new W530 with Win7 PRO and I had a strange problem last night. When done using it last night I put the computer into Hibernate and powered down and then put it away. When I picked up my computer bag this morning I noticed it was very warm. Upon pulling the machine out, the machine was hot and the fan was running. Opening the lid I found the machine at the login prompt and my battery level at 20%. Why would the machine not have properly shut down when I put it into hibernate last night? I have 2 other machines running Win7 and I've never seen this type of problem with either of them. Have other W530 users seen anything like this? What do you think?

Do you have wake on LAN or a similar feature enabled? If so, the machine would power on when it could connect to a wireless network.

Maybe it woke up at 3AM to automatically apply Windows Update? Have you customized "when to update" so as NOT to do that?

Win7 machines WILL come out of hibernation automatically for things like that with default settings behavior.
