Sorry if this has been posted 8,000 times before but I just recived my T60 today and I want to make sure everything is normal my processor is the T7200 2.0GHz and when I look at system undercontrol pannel this is what I see:

    Intel(R) Core(Tm)2 CPU
    T7200 @ 2.00GHz
997 MHz, 1.00 GB of RAM

Agian I want to make sure the "997 MHz" is supposed to be there that is all

    Thanks for the help

Maybe you have your power plan set to something below "high performance." The little battery/plug icon on the bottom right of your screen will allow you to set power options. Also, if you're running on battery power when you check, it's very likely that your processor has dropped it's speed to save battery.

Yes you have the 2GHz Core 2 Duo (if thats your question) T7200 is the item number for 2 GHz core 2 duos, its probably at 997 MHz for battery and heat conservation. Unless I am mistaken the CPu will automatically go up to 2 GHz when you need it to.

What you asked about is perfectly normal as your core 2 duo CPU has intel speedstep technology which slows the processor down when maximum processing power isn't needed. When you need the power the processor will shoot back up to 2.0Ghz.

Your windows power options usually control this if it is set to portable/laptop

    Hope this helps you...

997mhz is your system bus it is at the speed at which your processor operates interbally with the sytemboard as well as memory and other components. I have a core duo t2700 2.33ghz and mine runs at 997mhz internally too.

Actually, Windows' CPU speed display isn't dynamically updated, it only displays the CPU speed that it detects at the instant you open up the system properties page. So for a 2.0 GHz CPU, the speed could be anywhere between 1.0 and 2.0 GHz. You need a program like NHC or CPU-Z to see the CPU speed updated in real time.

The 997MHz is your clock speed. It is due to the power saving features which reduce the clock speed when the system is idle and helps to reduce heat and power consumption. The clock speed should automatically increase based on demand. Try using a utility like CPU-Z which will let you know the instantaneous clock speeds. As for as your bus speeds are concerned, for a T7200 it should be 667MHz(quad pumped) so the actual frequency is 166MHz.

I took out the battery in my T60, and speed stayed the full 1.66. I believe I was on the max. performance profile though.

You took the battery out while the laptop was running or you boot up on AC power with the battery out?

I took it out while it was running.
