I think you can. You aren't asking for different functionality you're asking for the same funtionality just faster. The thing you will have to watch is heat.

Your laptop supports chips in the T5xxx T7xxx, T8xxx, and T9xxx series. This does not mean all of the above chips will work, but there is at least one.
Off the top of my head, the chips you want to look at are..
    T7500 (2.2GHz)
    T7700 (2.4GHz)
    T8100 (2.1GHz)
    T8300 (2.4GHz)
    T9300 (2.5GHz)

You cannot use a Montevina chip with a 1066MHz FSB.

You shouldn't have a problem with heat, all of these chips have equal or lower thermal specifications to your current chip, and the y410 was designed to handle most of these chips anyway.

All of the chips do if they are of the i7 ilk but not so if he get's a faster chip but of the same family as the original which was not excluded by his question.

I'm sorry? The T5900, 2.2GHz, 800MHz FSB, compatible with this laptop so technically a possible upgrade, has a TDP of 35w, the same exact rating as a T5250. The T9500, the best chip he can put in ALSO has a TDP of 35w. Sooooo.... yeah. All of the chips he can put in have a TDP of 35 or 34w.
