    Hi Folks,

I bought a IBM T42 Laptop from my University and got Windows XP Professional installed. I had to reformat my laptop according to my company's software when I started working. Now I want to get back to Windows XP which I bought from my school. I have the Product key but do not have the CD of Windows. What all do I need to reformat my laptop again?

    Thank you,

    Hans

You need a product key and a distribution CD. You may need to borrow a distribution from a friend.

You can buy recovery CDs from Lenovo support or from here.

They will reset your T42 factory settings exactly as it was when new except it will use additional storage for the C: partition if available, so getting a new hard drive at this time might be a good idea. For the T42 it has to be PATA (called ATA when the T42 was new.) Newer SATA drives won't work in the T42.

After booting the factory reset system download Thinkvantage System Update from here, it will then update all drivers to current level.
