The X220 was announced on March 8 and went into production at the end of April. Can we expect that new Thinkpads will at least be announced by April?

I doubt anyone here knows. Even if they do, they are probably sworn to secrecy (read NDA) by Lenovo :)

I am also very much looking forward to hearing about the X230 (or X221, or whatever it will be called)

Since ivy bridge dual core mobile parts are delayed, maybe any announcement will be delayed as well, by maybe two months?

Sandy Bridge was announced in January, and X220 announcement came two months later (quite a bit later than T420 announcement). Following the same pattern, Ivy Bridge announcement is scheduled for April, so X230 (or whatever it turns out to be) will probably be announced in June.

    Just a guess.

The T-series and W-series are usually the "launch" devices for Intel's next-gen CPUs, while the X-series is updated months afterwards. Also, keep in mind that Lenovo uses the same (more or less) Thinkpad chassis over 2-3 generations before updating it, so we likely won't see any major changes to the X-series with the Ivy Bridge refresh.

I'm really only interested in screen changes. I doubt the X220 will get a change but I'm wondering if they might do something with the X1 replacement.

If the X220 gets a 1600x900 display option, I'd take it even if it were TN rather than IPS. But, I'm not holding my breath...

A touchpad tweak would also be welcome: I'd love to see the return of a X201 or X120e-style conventional touchpad.

Intel says "no way." Ivy Bridge not delayed Hopefully, we'll hear about the new Thinkpads by the end of Q1?

Specifically, they said the desktop cpus are not delayed... The mobile dual core chips are delayed until sandy bridge stock is depleted...

If they get a normal touchpad I seriously think I would replace my palmrest.

...a screen replacement, if I somehow managed to get a hold of a 1600x900 multitouch screen/assembly, it would probably not be worth the dough. And I'd have to apply another screen protector...*shudders*...never again. That for me is the immediate deal breaker.
