    I'm thinking about getting another notebook, just for Linux. I really like the x-series, but since this is just for fun I'm looking to get the cheapest possible.

    Basically I'm asking what is the oldest x-series with 12" widescreen (sorry the 4:3 is too square I like rectangles)?

    That's disappointing it's still really pricey even after all these years. Project thinkpad will have to wait. :(

    It's only about two years old, but ThinkPads were the last mainstream notebooks to go wide screen. There's not a lot of older wide screen machines in the portfolio. The oldest I'm aware of would be the Z60t, which is a Pentium M machine. That makes it about six years old. It's a 14", but light for its size at 4.5 pounds.
