I will chime in here since I just got one on just the cons. There are many, many pros, though.

    Cons:
Poor LED screen. I should not say "poor", but I will say that these are not premium screens at all. Poor vertical viewing angles, and colors look milky, washed out, frosty, etc. This is the single major flaw. I liken the argument sort of to the ones leveled against the new unibody macbook's LED screen. It's OK, but there many, many screens that I've seen that are better.

No digital out (no dvi or hdmi or display port). In this day and age, to me it seems like a ploy to sell more docking stations.

Protruding 6 cell battery. Why? Other notebook makers don't make their 14" 6 cells stick out. Even 13" notebooks don't require it to stick out. I dislike it and it makes the final size close to the T500.

I'm still investigating, but I can't make the battery brightness as bright as while on AC as soon as I install the power management driver. If I do a clean install of windows vista, no such problem exists.

In all fairness, you really need to compare the capabilities of the batteries. One 6-cell battery may give you six hours of run time, while another, perhaps much smaller, may run more like two to three hours. In other words, compare the sizes of batteries with similar run times, not number of cells.

Battery life has been a strong focus for Lenovo lately.

I have a T500, and so far, I am very very pleased with it. There is little chassis flex anywhere, really, and the keyboard flex has been resolved. The Thinklight issue, by most peoples' statements, has also been resolved. Probably the biggest con would be the lack of a digital video out port, but unless that's very important to you, it shouldn't matter too much.

I actually like the sticking-out batteries (one reason I got the 9-cell on the T500, other than longer battery life). When you're holding the laptop when it's on and walking from one room to another, for example, you can grasp the battery that is sticking out for a firmer grip on the laptop, without closing the lid. :)

That's caused by the ThinkPad Power Manager. It's not a bug; it's the intended behavior. The highest brightness level on battery is never as bright as the highest brightness level on AC.

Really? So there is no way to get the highest brightness possible while on battery power? You used to be able to do this. Why would they remove the choice from us?

I realized that if you install the ATI switchable graphics driver, this is what is causing this behavior.

There's no way that I know of, but then again, I haven't researched the issue. It doesn't bother me much.
