I wanted to protect the predesktop rescue and recovery workspace with a password. So I went into the rescue and recovery workspace by pressing the blue thinkvantage button on startup. Then I read the documentation in that predesktop interface that relates to setting a password.

It states there are three methods:

Method 1: Go into client security solution (CSS) application in windows and click 'reconfigure settings' then follow the wizard to set up either a password or passphrase which will protect the recovery workspace.

Method 2: Go into CSS in windows and click 'manage security policies' and check the 'log on to recovery workspace' box.

Method 3: This method works even if CSS is not installed. Go into rescue and recovery application in windows and click on preferences then check the 'protect recovery workspace with a password' box and the set the password.

In my investigation, I found that only Method 2 is valid and Methods 1 and 3 don't exist. For method 1, I found a reset option that only clears my CSS password. For method 3 I only found a 'protect backups with a password' option.

So does this mean the predesktop documentation is wrong/outdated? How to update the documentation?

BTW I'm using RnR 4.21 (latest version) I think. Is this documentation embedded within the RnR program or in Access Help or some other thinkvantage program, or in the service partition itself? Cuz if it's embedded within RnR then it means Lenovo did not do a good job of updating the software documentation.

Can someone log in to the RnR predesktop and check that their documentation regarding 'set recovery password' is also outdated?

BTW to access the doc, click on 'configuration overview link' in the RnR predesktop workspace.
