Anybody else getting markings on the palm rest from those dots on the upper rim of the LCD? I take such good care of this thing only to get markings on the palmrest from those things![]()
It's barely noticeable unless light hits it at the right angles, but just curious if anybody else is seeing this. Pic coming later to show it off.

Yep, it's also visible on my dad's X220. If they really do bother you, you could buy some thin pieces of rubber-ish material (commonly used to put small "feet" below vases and other ornaments) and attach them around the LCD so the lid doesn't rub against the base when closed.

Also seeing it on my W520.
I liked the old beveled bezel on the T60. Didn't seem to cause these issues. -
Also experiencing the same thing on my T520, had it for 4 months.
My old iBook had an entire stripe of screen-impressions a couple years in, I'll take the dots over that any day. -
Pretty sure everyone on the X220 will be experiencing this.
Noticed it on my X220, will see if the T420s provides the same results -
It's a shame the designers didn't have the foresight to prevent this. It doesn't bother me too much, though, I was just curious if anybody else was gettin' it. I do like the idea of putting one of those felt "feet" MidnightSun mentioned in the two corners, but the damage is already done

Yup, they started to appear within a week of using the laptop.

Another thing I would've never noticed unless I frequented this forum. Ha, good and a bad thing. I barely even see them, I have to be in a bright room. Mine just has tiny marks where the nubs hit the palmrest, not actually indented.

Yeah, this happens on quite a few ThinkPad designs. It's just what happens when plastic rubs against plastic repeatedly over the course of weeks/months/years.
If it bothers you, get some thin adhesive rubber feet. Personally I just ignore it, since it's part of normal wear and tear. -
thinkpads have had this feature since around 1996 or 97. previously it was a long bar on the LCD bezel that fit into a small channel on the keyboard bezel. the purpose is to give a specific support area for when closed.
if you look at the following photo of a 600, you can see the bar/channel design in the center plus a raised edge at the corners. anyone with a 600 will see these areas worn on their systems.

the small dots on the X220 serve the same purpose but eliminate the bar/channel concept as it arguably detracts from an otherwise clean design. without the dots, you would see long lines where plastic rubs against plastic. then the complaints would really fly. this is also why the X220 employs rubber bumpers in its design. the dots are that last little bit of support.
since 96~97, tablet models have been the only traditional thinkpad designs not to receive support bars (or dots). tablets are supported by large rubber bumpers.
