    Hey Everyone,

Here is what I got using the EPP 15% off, Amex 10% off TailorMade, and Fatwallet 3.5% off:

7662CTO ThinkPad T61 with nVIDIA Graphics
    -Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz 800MHz 4MBL2)[1]
    -Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
    (I already own Vista Ultimate)
    -14.1 WXGA+ TFT, w/ Camera
    -nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M
    -1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
(I got another 1GB Stick for $45.00 already)
    -UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
    -100GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    -Intel Turbo Memory 1GB
    -Bluetooth Integrated
-DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim
    -Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
-PC Card Slot with Media Reader
    -4 cell Li-Ion Battery

    Sub-total: $1,236.73
-1 Year On Site Upgrade with 1 Year ThinkPad Protection $95.20
-ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock with US/Canada/LA Line Cord $157.68

    Tax: $115.06
    Recycling: $12.00
    Lenovo Total: $1616.67

    (Minus TailorMade Amex 10% Discount) = ($161.67)
    (Minus FatWallet 3.5% Discount) = ($56.58)

    GRAND TOTAL = $1398.42

Even with the extra $45 for memory, I didn't think getting a system of this power for this price WITH the advanced Docking station was too bad a deal!

This assumes that the EPP and the FatWallet go through successfully without any hitches.

I'll keep everyone posted if the Laptop ever does ship, LOL. 6/11/07 is the estimated day.

Thanks again for everyone's help and input!

It's around time that a company start just shipping customizable T61's to Europe. $300 shipping? I am fine with that!

Congrats with your purchase. I hope for you that you will get it for that price!

I read that you use it docked a lot (just before someone begins about the 4 cell battery).

I guess that config will cost € 2500 ($3365) if it will ever be available here

    just curious

why do people want to give up WWAN for Intel Turbo Memory?
I rarely travel but on the days I do I would love to have the option for a 24 hour WWAN usage plan or something.

Honestly, I don't need WWAN. I have a 700wx on Verizon's EVDO network and I connect my laptop to it with PDANet via a cable or Bluetooth without issue. And since my data is bundeled with my phone minutes its also cheaper per month. hence why I went with the Intel Turbo Memory :)

Everyone is going for the Quadro despite so many asking if it's worth it, and getting replies like "workstation graphics" and "you don't need it". I guess it's just too hard to resist.

You aren't going to have much to any battery life, other than that I guess it is fine, the T61s aren't overprice right now like I thought they might come out.

well im getting the quadro just because i want my t61 to age better. i suspect that down the line, once vista and its subsequent SPs are optimized, it might be a good idea to have the extra graphics capabilities.

I've found it's better to NOT buy now for "futureproofing" because it's a more expensive approach and the future changes.

The better heuristic is to buy slightly lagging technology and then re-buy more frequently.

I don't agree with those who buy bleeding edge and hope "this will last me 4-5 years"... i think that's false economy

If only they were dimensionally transcendental as well...

When it comes to things like the Turbo Memory and Express Cards I agree. There's also the fact that these aren't upgradable, like future laptops might be.

When some speak of the future, they arent talking 4-5 years, more like 1-2 years! I rebuy every year and make sure to get as high of a spec machine as I can afford.

But many posters here state "my laptop must last for 4-5 years", and buy top specs and pay top dollar for something which will be worth only a few hundred dollars in 2 years (laptops depreciate 40-45% per year). I'm saying it's more effective to spend less and get less, then upgrade more frequently.

i see, and i agree on your point if it is indeed peopel trying to "futureproof" out to the next decade.

i agree with you to a certain extent. i just need a laptop to last me through law school and perhaps my first year on the job once i graduate. and of course, be able to run vista and the occasional game reasonably well. so that's 4 years of use for me. my current compaq presario is basically in shambles and it wasnt even a top of the line system--it's almost 4 years old. but maybe it's in shambles because i bought a compaq.
