Recently I have been noticing a pulsing high pitched sound over where the processor is on the upper left hand side of my t61. The sound is still there when the computer is plugged in and the processor is running at 2200mhz. After reading the other threads I figured it would have stopped at this setting. Is this anything to be worried about?

On another note, what do procs normally idle at at when the proc is fixed at its max mhz?

Is it the cpu whine? Try searching for it and you'll find all the threads. Its a Core 2 stepping sound.

Also you cpu can overclock when running on one core, so if you see it go faster then its rated speed then its doing that.

As for idle speed, it'll go down to 798 mhz and the temp should be in the 40s.

How long have you had your laptop for. It could be dust in the system that is causing some sort of short.
