For my 2 grandkids I purchased 2 IBM Thinkpad A21 Intel Pentium III 800 MHz 20GB DVD XP 1. The A21 has DVD drive. Will this drive recognize CD's to load software? No need to write. Will I need to get a USB CD reader to load software. The notebooks are for some kiddie games and school work. Junior high level here. GT

you can safely assume that this optical drive also reads cds as well...i'm 90% sure this will be the case at least...always have to give myself room for error [ ;)]

best thing to do would be to contact the seller just to verify this though.

Well my IBM deal went down the toilet. Just got back a note from the Ebay seller. I will post a copy here. Good thing I got all my money refunded. I will now wait until the Grandkids birthdays in Sept. or Christmas to buy again. Who knows. GT

Please note, I am trying to refund your paypal payment (see details below of message sent to paypal). These laptops were offered at wholesale price ($350) on a website from search engine--electronixwebshop.com. I sent payments in for the ordered products and then found out yesterday that the website no longer is active. When I emailed demanding explanaition, my emails were returned with "host error:" So, I have refunded everyone who sent in payment. The FBI, in conjunction with the International Fraud Prevention Unit in Nashville, TN is working to assist me in prosecution of the guilty party(ies). I sent money in for these laptops and lost it all.

I do have access to other laptops from legitimate sights I can let you know about--I am quitting Ebay after this but will supply the information for you to purchase direct yourself if you like. One of the bset sites to buy an inexpensive laptop is Computershoppingnetwork.com --they are a legitimate business and are cheaper than Ebay. I think they even offer express shipping.

I was charged a $27 fee by paypal when you sent payment. If I send payment to you, I have to add an additional $27 for the fee they charged me, plus you will be charged $26 to receive it. Therefore, I am trying to have them refund it to you so that neither of us has to pay fees. If it does not refund to you in the next day or two, feel free to file a transaction dispute with paypal and they will automatically take the money from my account then.

I am truly sorry for all of the inconvinience. This has been a nightmare for us--believe me.

    Hi George,
I'm glad you got your money back, you were lucky. I found out about www.electronixwebshop.com last week and they are a scam.

If your still looking for a thinkpad, try www.newwegg.com
They have the best prices I've been able to find on the IBM thinkpads.
