I did a search for such a topic but couldn't find anything, so here goes:

I live in Australia, and if I purchase a notebook off the Lenovo (Australia) website, does anyone know where exactly the notebook will come from? Since there's a tax that must be paid if you're purchasing an item through the internet that's valued over $1000AUD, from overseas.

I'm rather confused. Would this still 'apply' to an actual company (as opposed to eBay)?

How is it for those of you from the US (or elsewhere) who have purchased off the Lenovo website?

I haven't run into any additional fees since my order, but my laptop hasn't shipped yet. My system is being shipped to the US, and I believe it ships out from China.

^^Thanks. Reading across this forum I don't think I've come across anything of the kind..then again most of you seem to be from America so it might be different there.

If you are purchasing the product from "Lenovo Australia", then you should not be paying any duties or anything other than local taxes.
If Lenovo has a presense in Australia, it should be considered a local purchase.

They would order the product from Lenovo (corporate), import the goods (pay all of the local stuff), then re-sell through Lenovo Australia as domestic goods ....

At least, this is the way it was done with Lenovo Canada (and IBM Canada before that).

    Hope that helps.

My ThinkPads have all come from China. I pay state sales tax on each machine.

Well Canada and Australia are in the commonwealth, so this is close enough ;) It makes sense what you say, but I'll give my customs a call anyway. I do know that there's an IBM building/office in my city, so I guess that should be some indication.

You should call Lenovo instead of customs IMO ;)
