My first and current notebook is an HP dv6000z. That's 15.4" for those unfamiliar with HP's line of notebooks.
Even though I'm 90% sure I'll get the X200 in the near future, I'm still a little uncertain at how it's like getting used to 12.1". I know it's a full sized keyboard so that's a little comforting and gives me an idea of how big it is but there's no nearby stores or anyone I know with a 12.1" model that I can see for myself.
My question is, does it seem like the screen size is too small at times for those coming from a bigger size notebook and do you have to take extra energy to look closely at what's on the screen?

It was easy for me to go to 13.3" WXGA after 2 years of 15.4" WXGA, and I prefer text on the big side. I've also used 12.1" XGA for a while and it was good, but the screen was a little dim (Thinkpad X20).
Right now I have an HP Mini-Note sitting at home which has WXGA in a 8.9" formfactor. I can't wait to get my magnifying glasses out.
In short, you'll be ok. -
I'm writing this message with an 10" screen (MSI WIND), and everything looks big (I'm with XP and DPI setting @ 120). -
12" is bearable but I wouldn't say it's enormously comfortable. I find I can read it OK running on 1280x800 at 96DPI. The main problem which the screen is actually the height, as it's below my eye level I find myself hunching over the display to read it properly. I don't find it makes much difference going from the 14.1" display on my Latitude D610 to the 12" display on my Latitude D420

Is op asking about resolution though? I came from a 1680x1050 15.4" to this. Obviously it is less space and you can't have windows side by side as easily...but as long as it is not your SOLE monitor when you need productivity as I just mentioned, you should be fine.

i agree with jaredy, as long as it's not your sole monitor then it's perfectly fine. I use it for 5 hours straight at school and it wasn't bad (i also came from a 15.4 inch laptop)
but it's obviously a lot better with external monitors so i HIGHLY recommend getting the ultrabase!
Q about getting used to 12.1" of X200
