    Hi,

I've got a question in regard to using a Lenovo Windows 7 upgrade DVD I receieved for my X301 on a new X220 Im planning to order.

A few years back when I ordered my X301 Lenovo were offering free upgrades to Windows 7 and I was mailed a Window 7 installation DVD which I used to upgrade my X301 from Vista to Windows 7.

Fast forward a few years and my X301 was damaged and the repair costs equated close to the cost of a new laptop so I decided to buy an X220.

As the X301 has been decommissioned and Im not using the HDD, would it be possible to use the upgrade DVD on my new X220 ?

    Thanks

As far as I know a Windows 7 upgrade DVD is not tied to any specific computer.

You may use the upgrade disc, but you will need a valid product key.

You will be able to upgrade and run Windows 7, but it must be activated with a valid key in the next 30 days. (You may renew this two times for a total of 120 days of Windows 7 without a valid key).

Hi and thanks for the response.

The Lenovo Windows 7 upgrade DVD didnt actually come with a product key.

From memory I didnt even backup my activation prior to moving from Vista to Windows 7.

Still researching to make sure I don't misinform you.

I've done quite a few clean installs of Windows 7, Vista, and XP and had to enter the product key again each time.

An upgrade may be a different experience..

Same here. Ive had to use ABR when doing clean installs of the same OS, but this upgrade DVD seems to be a different beast.
