    Hi everyone,
Any thoughts on when a quad X1 might be available in the states? I'm in bioinformatics and can use the computing power.

Bonus: thoughts on the X1 user modifiability (adding RAM, etc)?

Bonus2: thoughts on when the X1 screen might be updated?

Basically, I'm trying to figure out when I should buy one of these beasts....

I'd think you'd hit thermal throttling on such a small machine pretty easily.

I'm not sure if anyone has even confirmed the existence of the quad core model, but it seems common consensus is that it exists and will be coming out in the summer probably.

Multiple reviews have noted its existence, so it seems likely Lenovo will release a quad-core version of the X1. As for the rest, there's really not too much info out--Lenovo has not posted a Hardware Maintenance Manual for the X1, but given the slim profile of the X1, hardware customizations probably won't be so easy. Max RAM is stated at 8GB, however.

Has Lenovo itself said anything yet?

A good time to upgrade the screen to 1440x900 while they're at it!

The only source that I'm aware of is an Anandtech article.

Hey now we're talkin'! If it's too much trouble to change the ratio I'd be alright with a 1600x900 as well :D .

Nice X1 with quad core CPU, it would be even nicer if it had dual ram slots so that people can better utilise the upgraded CPU capability with 2 x 4 gigs of ram.

    +1

Lenovo is proud and like to say that the X1 is a no sacrifice ultraportable, but they limit the RAM slots... Don't get me wrong, compared to the MBA, Series 9, the X1 sacrifices much less, but that missing RAM slot irks me in the wrong way.

I think the reason for this is that Lenovo recognizes that 2GB+ RAM sticks are becoming more and more affordable, and that most users won't need more than 4GB, particularly on an ultraportable machine. It would have been nice, though, to see maybe 2-4GB of RAM integrated on the motherboard (as the Dell Studio 14z did before, I believe), particularly given the X1's high price.

X1 price doesn't seem to be all that much, in Australia it costs the same as the X220, which has already been heavily discounted as compared to the older X201.

That is one of the things I don't like about the X1. I might be ordering one in the next few days and there is no way I will upgrade the memory right away until prices come down. Other than that, I just wish the internal battery lasted an hour or so longer. I doubt I will get the slice battery option.

Or even better, 1600x900. Oh wait, that's 16:9 instead of 16:10, isn't it. Shucks, can't have that then. ;)
