    Big difference?

    I'm thinking of getting a t60p or a t61p.

Note that the v5250 has 256mb? Does that matter?

Are you talking about the 15.4" or the 14" T61p? The 14" T61p has a crippled 570m, which is only slightly better than the V5250. The 570m in the 15.4" T61p is at least around 75% better than the v5250.

The T60p receives the following Windows Vista ratings:

Desktop Performance for Windows Aero = 4.3
    Gaming Graphics = 4.7

The T61p receives the following Windows Vista ratings:

Desktop Performance for Windows Aero = 5.9
    Gaming Graphics = 5.4

    Any questions ? :D

Windows Vista ratings may possibly be the worst benchmark ever devised.

    in 3-D modelling apps the 256mb V5250 kicks the 128mb 570m's ass

I have other testing data points beyond WINSAT but they are proprietary so you'll have to get the proof you trust from the trusted testing orgs. The T60p is a solid machine (I have two) and based on my testing of the T61p eval unit ordered one.

Now, about those 4GB SoDimms...

The 256mb 570m is better, as I mentioned before. However we don't know if the OP is looking at 15" machines or 14" machines.

    14". I'm a die hard 14". I can't believe a 256mb 570m scored a 7500 on 3dmark05. The 15.4 are almost as big as my dell precision m90 (17")

I'm mainly looking to find out if the 256mb of the v5250 will beat out the crippled 128 570m in any aspect.. maybe 3dmark06?

Will you be using this computer for gaming or 3d modeling?

The gaming performance won't be so good on native resolution, as that computer comes with a fairly high resolution display. However at a more reasonable resolution (such as 1280x960) you should be able to play current games on medium, and next-gen games such as Crysis and Bioshock at medium-low, at least. The performance will be extremely close to the 8600M-GT found in the Dell 1520, so check out gaming reviews of that to get an idea of what you can play.

Thanks. I was also wondering if this model was a widescreen model. Iam looking at the specs and it says 14.1 inches...which I thought was WS...but then I see the SXGA+ and that does say the W...so does that mean its not WS? Sorry for the noob questions.

    Nope, it's not widescreen. It's a standard aspect ratio 14.1" 1400x1050 display.

There is no widescreen version of the 14" T61p scheduled to the best of my knowledge. Just to let you know, performance will be similar to the V2s and the F8sv, if you want to wait for either of those.

Yeah i would think so. It is just that the price is currently at 1253, i just dont think you can beat that price. Iam still debating V2s vs. T61p

hehe only if we had known this was a crippled version, I thought for sure it had the 128bit memory bandwith oh well for ~1000 its not a bad deal. Do you think this is Lenovo's or Nvdias doing?

It is Lenovo's doing. Nvidia has little or no hand in deciding on the final specs that in the OEM design.

    How about T60p, 14.1" with a 256mb ATI V5250, vs a T61 15.4" with a 128mb Quadro NVS 140m?

It will most likely be marginally better than the NVS140m on resolutions higher than WXGA, though it might still be a bit slower in newer games like Crysis.

Yes, the crippled video card thing from Lenovo is the lamest thing ever. It is not like having more memory is going to massively change the thermal properties of the notebook. THey should just charge more for it, or have ordered all of the one chip and gotten a bigger bulk discount. I wanted a 14" again with UXGA and Quadro 570 w/256 MB

He was actually asking about the NVS140m, which is not crippled at all. And as for the 128mb FX 570, it's not the amount of memory that cripples it, it's the fact that the bus width is half as wide.

Well I have noticed my T61p is already very HOT, almost unbearable when I am running processor intensive apps. I don't think the new cooling system is very effective on the 4:3 T61p's. The 4:3 T61p's seem almost like an afterthought by Lenovo.

Even when looking at the motherboard of both a T61P 15.4 and 14.1 there are huge differences, there is a whole extra piece of motherboard that the 15.4's have that are missing from the 14.1's. There must be a reason why Lenovo did not put this (non crippled) graphics card in the 4:3 and I am thinking its probably due to the excessive heat that this computer already puts out.
