This is a double post with one in the windows forum, as I have never found a similar issue to be manufacturer specific, but am asking to see if anyone with my machine or brand has had the same experiences.
--I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T400s. It came with XP, and at the time the brightness control was able to be changed from full bright, to screen on with backlight off.
After upgrading (clean) to Win7 64, and getting everything working, my brightness control is half of what it was before. Specifically, the brightness only goes down to half of what XP could take it too.
I.e.: Under XP, I had 16 shades of backlight. Under Win7, I have 16 shades of backlight, but the range is half of the brightness as compared to XP. So the equivalent of it stopping after 8 shades of backlight.
I've searched for this issue; i've updated drivers; nothing works, nor does anyone have the same or similar solution. Most times people complain their FN keys dont work or they cant control brightness from they keyboard. This is not my problem. I simply cant control my backlight as I could under XP, before I wiped it.
Ideas, experiences?
Thanks,
~ V

After I installed Win7 (32-bit) on my T500, I wasn't able to adjust the brightness at all. However, a BIOS update remedied the problem. Perhaps a BIOS update might help in your situation.

I dont believe it to be BIOS related. Simply because, I can get the display really dim or bright during the bootup. Once Windows loads I then have a reduced range of brightness. That, and I have done a few BIOS updates since I've had the T400s and its never changed anything for me.
If you open the Thinkvantage power manager and enable dynamic brightness controls for startup and shutdown, I can get the desired effect when doing those functions. But its a bit hard to operate a computer while its off.
Thanks for the idea though. -
What does system update give you? Sounds like it could be hotkey driver or intel graphics driver
Quasi-working brightness control
