Thinking about buying a second 9 cell battery for my T400 but if I do, and I don't use it for a few months, will it degrade, lose charge capacity and thanks.

keep it at 40 to 60% charge level will minimize any battery degradation.

Keeping it in a cool and dry place will also help. I've heard people that keep them in the refrigerator but I don't know if it helps more or is safe.

Thanks but could I charge it to 50% and then put it away for a couple of months, and then start using it again without worrying about much degrading? Just trying to make sure I understand you and thanks.

Thanks for your help again. I am seeing the 9 cell for T400 for $179 from Lenovo. Any better alternatives to this that anyone would trust for a cheaper price and thanks.

Short answer is yes, it will degrade, whatever you do.

You can only slow the degradation process by tricks people described above, but it will not be very significant slowdown (not comparing to the battery being actually used of course). It's just the way li-ion based chemistry works, in essence battery starts corroding right after manufacture :)
