I know much has been posted about Vista and downgrading, all I am really looking for is for some honest responses in regards to upgrading from XP Pro to Vista Home Premium on a Z61T. What are the benefits / drawbacks?

I upgraded to Vista on an old HP DV2100 and honestly didn't see much of a difference in regards to performance. Some programs I could not use in Vista (NB hardware control + SAFEND Personal Protector), but other than that everything worked out fine. I am more concerned about my Thinkpad becasue of the ThinkVantage software and becasue I only have 1 gb of ram installed.

Also, if I would want to revert back to XP Pro I do not have the recovery disks which brings me to another question: where do I order them? Are they free?

    Thanks in advance.

I upgraded my Z61t to Vista Business nearlly the day I received it. Truthfully, there are not a lot of advantages of Vista over XP Pro. Vista's folder syncing works much better than the old version. As far as all the Thinkvantage software, everything I am running is working very well in Vista Business. On a side note, Vista "seems" to run Office 2007 better than XP. I'm not sure if that can be truly measured, but on similiar installations, Vista seems better. I would also recomend getting at least 1.5 GB's of RAM. Vista will run "fine" with 1 GB, but you will see a noticeable performance increase with more ram.

You should be able to burn off a set of recovery discs.
