Have you checked the nVidia control panel? Or tried Fn + F3?

Also, you could try Windows Key + P on the keyboard.

I can't seem to get my tv to recognize, or I may be pushing the wrong button.

I know this is a silly question but... Are you sure the HDMI cable works?

Not silly, but yeah, it's the cord I was using for my PS3, haven't checked yet because I've been away from my laptop for a littl ebit, but could it do with having to have the laptop use the 660m all the time when trying to use the HDMI, or should that matter?

Alright, need some further help if possible. Haven't been able to get the hdmi to work properly. Have tried control panel and Fn +F3, and also Windows key + P, however none of these seem to be making the tv recongnize the connection. I have tried two different tvs, would there be anything else I need to do? I've tried all of the options under the Windows + P selection, but nothing.

Are there drivers I need to update? Or anything in that respect?

So the problem is that the TV doesn't recognize the Laptop... but does the laptop recognize the tv? Did you check "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution" (right click on the desktop and choose "screen resolution")? Do you see the TV there?

when i try to plug in an hdmi cable, it gets stuck half way, and i have to jiggle it to get it in. damn hdmi port has some holes in it that make the cable get stuck.

and how come when i unplug the hdmi cable while running extended desktop, the stuff on the external monitor doesn't move back to the laptop screen ?
Also, when i close the laptop lid, it doesn't automatically display on the external lcd/tv. Have to press fn+f3.
Very annoying, as far as hdmi goes.
All this was automatic on my other 2 older laptops.

I forgot to mention, you can also check in Control Panel/Intel Graphics and Media and in the Display tab look for multiple display.

    you have a Y580?

I just restored the laptop to factory setup using one key recovery.

I have laptop set as primary display, 2nd display turned off, but still plugged into hdmi port.

closing the lid still does not automatically display onto external monitor. This is factory setup untouched.

can anyone else please confirm by plugging in external monitor........either vga or hdmi should produce same results.

I just called Lenovo tech support, and their internal notes state that some ideapads have automatic switching disabled because some customers don't like it.

    I am running bios v2.03
    some people have bios 2.05
my bios may have the feature disabled.

    @ SadExchange

Did u solve your problem? Yesterday I tried to use my 40in FHD tv as a monitor but my computer didn't recognized it. My problem was a really silly one... I plugged my cable in the 2nd HDMI port of the TV without having anything in the 1st HDMI port. I connected it to the 1st HDMI port and it worked... So who knows if its something as simple as that.

    Good luck
