I'm considering buying a ThinkPad T60, and was trying out some configurations to get an estimate on the price. There are three different services provided for you to choose from.

    Warranty service upgrades
ThinkPlus Maintenance Services offer you a variety of service level upgrades for your business systems. Use our convenient services to enhance or extend your hardware service coverage beyond its systems standard warranty term. Please choose one of the following upgrades which meets your business needs.

    Extended service contracts
ThinkPlus Maintenance Services offer you a variety of service levels for your personal machine. Use our convenient services to enhance or extend your hardware service coverage beyond its systems standard warranty term. Please choose one of the following upgrades which meets your computing needs.

    Protection services
Help protect your product purchase in case of accidental damages, such as drops or falls, liquid spills and LCD damage. Add a service upgrade Protection offering and help increase productivity by eliminating the time and resources required to deliver or ship equipment for repairs.

Now, for all the other sites I've seen, usually you can choose a standard warranty for a certain many years and then you have the option to choose an accidental damage plan for that same length of time. I assumed that Protection services was equivalent to an accidental damage coverage, and I reasoned that the Warranty service upgrades were the standard warranty package. However, whenever I try to combine two of the three services with similiar years, I get this message.

Please choose only one of these services: protection service, upgrade service or protection service bundled with an upgrade.

Now I know which of the three is protection service, but which is the upgrade service and which is the protection service bundled with an upgrade? What have you other ThinkPad customers purchased, and what would you recommend?

Warranty service upgrades = go for this one if you use your machine for business purposes

Extended service contracts = using your machine for personal/home purposes

these two are given provided that you will not use your machine as a Panasonic TOUGHBOOK ... much like waiting for your machine to suddenly not work on you but can still have it for repair at no cost (of course you have paid for it earlier)

Protection services = in case the real life scenario of trying to ruining your machine is possible, go for this one..."Help protect your product purchase in case of accidental damages..."

Well, the ThinkPads have pretty good protection against spills, correct? I'd be pretty careful and cautious with handling it, and it is only for home and person usage, so if I have to pick only one of those three services I'd be correct in going with Extended service contracts? It'd be either that or Protection services, is there no bundle?

nahh... i think they don't have the that kind of bundle... they are premium products, and they want you to pay for that premium

do not have the third option if you are on a 'safe' working environment
