I just got my Y470 model and I was setting it up. I updated to the latest Nvidia drivers and I was wondering what the best way is to configure it. I was wondering, do you keep the gpu switch on all the time? Or just when playing games? How about when watching HD videos?

What changes should I make in the nvidia control panel if i want high settings?

I find my Intel HD3000 is fine for online and offline video`s at up to1080p , but optimus turns on my Nvidia GT540m which uses a lot more power than the Intel GPU , so i set my browser and video player to use the Intel GPU inside the Nvidia control panel , referred to as white-listing.

I suppose it depends on how powerful you integrated gpu is whether or not you use the dedicated gpu.

I really only use the Nvidia GPU for gaming and encoding videos with cuda.

I just flick the switch to on before I start up a game and flick it off when I quit. It seems to work properly.

Optimus does not have a switch, you talking about the previous generation of switchable graphics.

    sorry to bump this thread

but Tinderbox, i have questions for you

so i just recently clear all my drivers ( Intel and Nvidia ) using uninstaller then the Driver Sweeper, all cleaned up

then reinstall both drivers with the latest one

    but then

software like Photoshop and Adobe Flash ( which in the Control Panel settings is using Nvidia by default ) but it didnt run on Nvidia when i start those programs.

now the weird part is, i saw the Notification of the Nvidia turned into color ( which means the Photoshop tried to kick it in ) when Photoshop is starting

but after a few seconds, it turned off again to no activity ( as if the process of using the Nvidia got terminated somehow )

now, the funny thing is, when i went to the Menu in Photoshop

Preference>Performance> then i uncheck and recheck the "OpenGL"

then it uses the Nvidia ( even when i turn on the OpenGL back )

but i had to do that to make my Photoshop use the Nvidia

but when i close the Photoshop and re open it ( with OpenGL ticked ), then it again dont use the Nvidia until i did that step..

    any thoughts on this?
