My R60 was infected by a trojan today. Specifically the trojan.dropper. I have tried to boot in safe mode and run symantec antivirus (the program came installed) and it didn't find anything. Although it says it is auto-protecting against the trojan when I'm operating in the normal mode. I downloaded Nod32 and ran that program. It says that it cannot search some files and I believe this is due to Symantec blocking it. I tried to delete symantec but it says that one of the .dll files in the common files folder is in use... so I can't fully delete the program. I'm kind of fed up with trying to get rid of Symantec so I can run Nod32 or AVG. My question is if I reformat the HDD will this void my warranty?

Also, if anyone has any other advice on how to get rid of 1) the trojan and 2) symantec please let me know.

    Thanks everyone for your help

No, not at all. Feel free to reformat your computer.

Formatting your drive seems a bit drastic. There are plenty of free programs which should help.

    Thanks everyone

ZaZ: which programs can help? Any advice? Ultimately I want only want one antivirus program on my computer... I have a feeling that this will be pretty hard trying to get rid of Symantec.

Symantec is dreadful. I personally use Avast. I would suggest a firewall as well. I use NetVeda's SafteyNet. ZoneAlarm is another free one.
