Hi. Suppose you have a new TP that has Vista and the HD is 120GB. You also have a HD from another TP (same model and most specs are also the same.) which has XP pro, 80GB.

Now suppose you want to downgrade to XP.

    Method 1:
Simply replace the 120GB Vista HD by the 80GB XP HD from the other TP.

    Method 2:
Keep the 120GB. Use Rescue & Recovery CD to downgrade the 120GB HD (need to read the "clean install" post  )

    Which method is more reliable?

    Second question:

Suppose that after you have used Method 1 above (replacing the HD), you decided to have the XP on the 120GB HD. So you take out the 80GB HD, put the 120GB HD back in, then use the Rescue & Recovery CD to downgrade to XP. Will it work smoothly? Any problems/issues?

    Thanks--I hope I've made myself clear. :D

Downgrade. If you swap the hard drives. Windows will start complaining about expired licences and tell you to go buy another one as it's tied to another machine.

If you don't have the XP disc, but just the rescue & recovery disc, is that enough?
