What type of cable do I need to buy in order to connect a drive that is in an external enclosure equipped with a mini USB type B + eSATA connector? I know that eSATA generally does not provide power (unlike USB). I did notice that the eSATA connector the T420 does not look like the eSATA connector on the external enclosure and am wondering if the one on the T420 is a powered eSATA port?

If that is the case, then can I use a cable like this one: Amazon.com: eSATA USB combined cable to an eSATA Male and USB Mini type Male Cable.: Electronics ?

See SATA Cables External and eSATA cables External. eSATA cables are generally type I connectors on both ends.

The eSATA port on the T420 is actually a combo eSATAp port. It allows you to use eSATA, USB, or eSATAp.

Thank you. That is very helpful. Will try a eSATAp to eSATA+USB power cable and see if that works with my enclosure.
